Before you contact a custom home builder, it’s a good idea to sit down with everyone who will be living in your new home and answer the following questions. Doing so will help you create a clear picture of what you want your home to be and how you need it to function.

There are no right or wrong answers here, these questions are designed to help you identify what is important to you when it comes to your custom home.

How long do you plan to live in your new home?

Deciding whether this new home will be your “forever” home can determine its design and what features you want to prioritize. For example, if your employer has the possibility of changing or making you relocate, that’s something to consider.

If you have young children, do you plan to stay in this home after they grow and move out or will you want to downsize?

What does your family or household need to live comfortably?

Identifying what your new home “must” have vs. what would be “nice to have” is a great way to make sure you prioritize the most important features.
